Narrowcast Server Does Not Start on 10.6

by Community Manager on ‎01-16-2017 03:52 PM (796 Views)

It has come to our attention on January 11th that some users have been unable to start their Narrowcast Servers after upgrading to 10.6.  We are currently working on creating a solution.  Distributing a fix as soon as possible is currently our highest priority.

Are there any potential workarounds?

Currently organizations on the Feature Release that rely on Narrowcast are advised to postpone any upgrade to 10.6 until a fix is available.

Any organizations currently on 10.6 that are experiencing Narrowcast issues can still distribute essential reports through Distribution Services until a fix is available.  We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

How do I receive updates, and how do I receive an alert when a solution is available?

You can follow progress on this issue by following this blog post.  We will send another email announcement as soon as we have a solution in place.  Our goal is to be transparent and proactively communicate technical issues as they arise.  Again, we thank you for your patience and will be providing updates as soon as they are available.

We are pleased to announce that we have found the root cause of the problem. Executables required for the Distribution Manager are not correctly registered during installation, causing the startup failure.

To correct this, you could manually register the required files by following instructions in TN321606, after which, your Distribution Manager should start, and all associated functionality will work

However, even with this fix, logging server continues to generate empty log files. We are working on addressing this as soon as possible, and will provide updates on this same blog post
